Decorating small spaces
doesn’t mean sacrificing style. All you need to do is plan accordingly and make smart design choices. Here are a few to help you on your way:

Storage

Storage is essential in small spaces, but too often it seems there isn’t enough. To make up for a lack of closets or storage try incorporating trunk, chests and boxes into your décor. For example, a trunk with a flat top can make a great coffee table.

Shelving

Tall bookcases, armoires and floating shelves are terrific for making use of vertical space. They allow you to build upwards and use very little floor space.

Seating

In a kitchen or dining room you can’t beat a banquette. It can often seat more people than chairs can, and a custom banquette can be made to include under seat storage. They have a reputation for being casual, but dress them up in formal fabric and you’ve got luxurious dining room seating.

Furniture

Trade in bulky furniture for slimmed down pieces. A sofa with scrolled arms can take up to two feet of unnecessary space. Opt instead for straight, narrow arms and you gain living space. This doesn’t mean you should buy small furniture, just furniture with a slim silhouette.

Also consider using glass-top tables with thin metal bases. They take up negative space and give off a light and airy feeling. It’s almost like they’re not there.

Accents

Well chosen accents can make a big impact without taking up a lot of space. A great piece of art, a beautiful vase or a bright garden stool can add oomph without using much space.

Texture

Some people like to keep their color palette neutral when decorating small spaces. If this is the case be sure to use a lot of texture to add depth and keep it from being boring.
